About the Artist
Hi, I’m Court - the hands and heart behind By Court.

My journey into pottery began four years ago during lockdown. I found myself unemployed and searching for something to occupy my time, so I decided to try my hand at wheel throwing. With zero knowledge, a cheap (and very bad) pottery wheel, and a lot of determination, I set out to teach myself. I quickly discovered that this art form was much harder than it looked!

It wasn’t until late 2023, when I took a six-week ceramics course, that everything finally clicked. I learned so much during that time and became completely obsessed with throwing. Pottery became more than just a creative outlet—it became my therapy, my safe space, and my way to heal through the hard things life has thrown at me.

Gift giving has always been my love language, so I started out creating pieces for friends and family. The amazing feedback I received after sharing my work on social media inspired me to take the leap and turn this passion into a small business. So, here we are!

Each of my pieces are carefully handcrafted in my home studio in North Brisbane, using locally sourced Australian clay. Pottery is a slow and intentional process that takes 4-6 weeks from start to finish, requiring patience and care at every stage. From shaping the clay on the wheel to drying, attaching handles, bisque firing, glazing, and the final kiln firing, each step is essential to creating durable, beautiful pieces. This time-intensive process, combined with the use of high-quality materials, is reflected in the pricing of my work. Every item is made with thought, love, and a commitment to craftsmanship, ensuring you receive something truly special.

From cute and delicate mugs for your morning coffee to versatile functional ware for your kitchen, By Court offers thoughtfully crafted pieces for everyone. Supporting small businesses like mine not only helps foster a more sustainable future but also ensures you’re investing in unique, handcrafted pieces made with care and intention.

Thank you for being here on this journey with me - your support means the world! I hope you love my pieces as much as I have loved creating them.
